Adelaide is set to be the first city in Australia to have submarine boats ready to take on the navy.
The project, to be funded with money raised on the government’s $300 million Defence Business Commission (DBBC) grant, will see a fleet of around 500 corvettes and frigates being designed and built in Adelaide.
The Navy says it hopes to have the new subs by 2017.
The DBBC will provide the $30 million for the project, including $10 million from the Government’s Department of Defence Strategic Defence and Security Investment program and $25 million from the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
It is also contributing $5 million for engineering.
In total, the project could cost $700 million, the D서울 출장 안마epartment of Defence says.
The Defence Minister, Christopher Pyne, said he was not sure about a $30 million investment in submarine production in Adelaide but hoped the project would show the “significant support” for the city and the Defence Force in its development.
“I would urge local people to support us because it’s a very important part of our local community, we have a deep connection with the local people, a deep connection with the communities we work with and we’re conf카지노 사이트ident that with the support of the Government, you can go forward and have something of value for Australians, including in an area we think might attract an attractive future investor,” he said.
“I think that’s fantastic.”
Adelaide mayor Graham Quirk said he was encouraged by the development, and he hoped the new ships would attract the next ship builders.
“This is another excellent boost to our economy and it’s a great contribution to our defence,” Mr Quirk said.
“I know we’re going to receive this and I’m sure we’ll go ahea인터넷바카라d and begin the process of building them out in Adelaide.
“I don’t think we’ll need a new shipyard for them and I wouldn’t want one built up north of Perth in a different location.”
